Highlights
- CAPACITISiM: electric field calculation, fully refined and integrated into the simulator. Supports RZ, XYA and XYB analyses, including insulation layers between both flat and round conductors.
- SPICESiM: multi-circuit support for accurate simulation of capacitive effects coupled to the magnetic model. Exported equivalent circuits are automatically checked and, if needed, corrected to guarantee passivity, so they run stably in circuit simulators such as LTspice or SIMPLIS.
- Litz wire support: a new conductor type defined by strand radius, number of strands and packing factor. It is modeled as an equivalent homogenized material in magnetic simulations and as solid copper in electric simulations.
- 10× faster round-wire simulations: round-conductor simulations now take a tenth of the time, with no loss of accuracy.
- Improved background simulations: keep working while simulations run, cancel running jobs at any time, and use Clean up to remove leftovers and invalid simulations. A new real-time console shows the solver’s progress step by step.
Core configuration
- Renewed CustomCore library: 7 new core families, plus a full revision of the existing ones so that dimensions, geometry type and default values follow manufacturer catalog conventions.
- Independent air gaps: gaps can now be defined independently for each leg.
- Updated 2D modeling for existing and newly added cores.
Windings configuration
- Copy & paste windings: Copy and Paste buttons on each leg transfer a full winding configuration to another leg in one click.
- Integrated 2D drawing: the PCB structure, insulation layers and round-conductor coating are now displayed directly in the 2D view.
- Smart insulation thickness:
- With zero thickness, the pitch is the pure physical distance between conductors (shown in the GUI and in 2D FEMM).
- With non-zero thickness, the actual distance between conductors is computed and shown in the GUI. (Note: for computational efficiency, this is not rendered in the magnetic FEMM model.)
Simulation and modeling
- Refined conductor modeling: flat and round conductor models have been adjusted for even more accurate resistance.
- Phase-aware power loss: power loss calculation now includes phase, ideal for working with square waves generated from SPICESiM.
- Vector Fitting order control: set the VF order yourself. For reliable results, at least 10 frequencies spanning at least 3 decades are required.
Results postprocessing
- New interactive plots, cleaner and more intuitive.
- Power loss and per-winding current plots vs. frequency.
- Unified results view: XY Run Experiment results are now visible consistently across all views.
Interface and general features
- New USERCONFIG manager: a dedicated interface to set custom folders for the core library, materials and Autosave backups (only 2 KB). You can also set the FEMM path, so a portable FEMM can be used where IT restrictions apply.
- Advanced file management: redesigned Open and Save menus to quickly load previous solutions.
- Flexible windows: maximize with a double click or resize from any of the four corners.
- New built-in examples with precomputed results, matching manufacturer catalog geometry.
- End User License Agreement (EULA) now included.
Bug fixes
- Air gap in cores with an I-cap: window air regions were misassigned when the smallest gap was zero, which is the default when loading a catalog core. This affected both magnetic and electric simulations.
- Core geometry:
- Micrometals E cores: dimensions B and C were swapped.
- EER and ERPlanar cores: classification and geometry corrected.
- Loading a design now resets dimensions that don’t apply to the selected core family, instead of carrying over values from previous designs.
- Conductor materials: changing the material now loads its conductivity (aluminum was previously simulated with copper’s).
- Conductor coating: default values now match the material shown in the selector; previously they could start with zero thickness.
- Materials database: insulation is no longer skipped when loading materials, and the materials selector no longer freezes after a Steinmetz fitting error. (More improvements to come in this area.)
- Simultaneous simulations: a new simulation can no longer be launched from any tab while another one is running, avoiding conflicts with FEMM.
- SPICESiM: fixed some narrow-band fits silently failing to export.
- Autosave and re-simulation: Autosave now stores the full setup, and re-simulations apply changes made in the setup options.
- Results: the interface now refreshes properly when an electric simulation finishes, just as with magnetic ones.
- Timer: internal application clock behavior adjusted.
- Units: units added to electrical conductivity parameters, and B units corrected in the core power loss plot.
- Other fixes: Debye parameter loading for ferrites, XYB electric region behavior, material import and triple gap import.
