2.1 is out
MAGNETISiM 2.1 is available today. It is a stable release that builds on 2.0, which we released in October 2026 during the 14th European Space Power Conference (ESPC 2026) in Estoril, where we also presented the paper “Core and Winding Modeling in MAGNETISiM: a Platform For Fast Prototyping of Magnetic Components”.
Where 2.0 left us
Version 2.0 turned MAGNETISiM into a family of tools. CAPACITISiM computes the parasitic capacitances of the same geometry, and SPICESiM turns the simulated matrices into passive circuit models that run in LTspice or SIMPLIS. Litz wire joined flat and round conductors, and round-wire simulations became ten times faster.
What 2.1 adds
2.1 is about trust: SPICESiM gets a home of its own, the results keep what you have already simulated, and the application tells you clearly when an input cannot be used.
- SPICESiM has its own tab in Results, with a live console and live plots while it fits the model.
- The model order is found for you: set the maximum model error and SPICESiM finds the lowest order that meets it.
- Stop keeps what is finished: stopping a sweep keeps every frequency that had already finished.
- All frequencies at once in Circuit Viewer and Power Loss, with one excitation value per frequency.
- Core losses element by element: Steinmetz is applied to each mesh element, and B max is shown next to B avg.
- Clear warnings: a field that cannot be used turns red, with a one-line explanation.
The release notes list every change, from the new reluctance model for round cores to the bug fixes.
Get it
MAGNETISiM 2.1 is a portable .zip for Windows: unzip it and run it, with nothing to install. You will need FEMM 4.2 (build of 21 April 2019). Earlier versions, 2.0 included, stay on the download page.
What comes next
Version 2.2 brings the analytical peak flux density from every winding, including leakage, and improved analytical core losses. See the roadmap for what follows.
